2008 Reserve Primitivo - Wine Club Only
Rich jammy blackberry, brown spice, ripe fig, and prominent mineral notes are among the complex range of flavors in our 2008 Reserve Primitivo. Grilled lean red meats, seafood jambalaya, and mushroom risotto will pair nicely with this very entertaining wine.
Winemaker Notes
Due to September heat, the 2008 vintage from our heritage Montfort Vineyard had particularly high sugars in the fruit at harvest. We managed to nurture the fermentation to completion over a period of two months (it normally takes only 7-10 days) but a small amount of residual sugar, 0.6%, remained, lending a port-like character to the wine. The slow fermentation allowed both the added French winemaking yeast cultures and native wild yeasts to chug away together, resulting in some very interesting and complex flavors.
