Jefferson Starship: Going to the Edge for Over 40 Years

The members of Jefferson Starship past and present have been exploring the mysteries of music for more than 1000 collective years. Give or take. But who's counting?

Jefferson Airplane founding member Paul Kantner created Jefferson Starship with that collective spirit in mind and carried it with him throughout his life.

Kantner knew that combining powerful creative forces, personalities and talents could create something far greater than the sum of its parts. Between 1974 and 1984, Jefferson Starship released eight gold and platinum selling albums, twenty hit singles, sold out concerts worldwide and lived out legendary rock and roll escapades.

Today's Jefferson Starship remains dedicated to breathing new life into the living catalog of the Jefferson legacy, going to the edge, pushing the sonic boundaries and staying true to the original spirit of the music, on and off stage.

Times have changed, but the music remains as relevant as ever. Massive hits like White Rabbit, Somebody to Love, Volunteers, and We Built This City continue to reverberate in pop culture today through films, tv, commercials and heavy rotation on classic rock radio. The David Freiberg-penned Jane is the theme song for the hit Netflix Series Wet, Hot American Summer.

Four decades after the inception of X, one thing is clear: X was not only one of the most influential bands to crash out of the PUNK  movement of the late 70s, but their music continues to be sonically groundbreaking. Songs written during the group's inception are as relevant and inventive today as they were in 1977.

In the late 1970s, a new sound burst upon the Los Angeles music scene – the music made by a four-person rock band with the enigmatic name of X. Playing in clubs like the Whisky and the Starwood, X set a new standard for driving, forceful songs that both critics and the public felt revolutionized the California sound.

X is an American punk rock band, formed in Los Angeles in 1977, among the first wave of American punk.

X achieved limited mainstream success but influenced various genres of music, including punk rock and folk rock. In 2003, X's first two studio albums, Los Angeles and Wild Gift, were ranked by Rolling Stone as being among the 500 greatest albums of all time. Los Angeles was ranked 91st on Pitchfork's Top 100 Albums of the 1980s. The band received an Official Certificate of Recognition from the City of Los Angeles in acknowledgment of its contribution to Los Angeles music and culture. (Source: Wikipedia)
